About Global People Project
Global People Project (GPP) has started by asking people around the world questions that touch on themes such as happiness, anger, kindness, violence, hope, war and the future. Using our interactive Thought Map you can explore people’s answers by selections you make of places, people and questions. We are working to add as many new people and places to the project as we can, and to revolutionise the visual and interactive abilities of our work.
Background
Global People Project was devised and founded by Hugh Lewis in 2006 as a geo-social artwork for the Internet. In 2007 after filming most of the initial interviews around the world, Hugh teamed up with Nils Millahn to develop the website and Thought Map application. Since its beginning the project has benefitted from the generous time and donations of over 30 people from all around the globe, all of whom have helped it come to this first stage.
In 2008 Hugh and Nils incorporated Global People Project as a social enterprise. GPP is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to developing inter-human awareness in a global context.
This is the first step on-line for Global People Project and so far includes only a sample fraction of the interviews we have already filmed. So far GPP has interviews with over 700 people in over 20 languages from places all over the world. At this time there are over 10,000 recorded answers to the initial set of questions. One of our prime targets now is to transcribe / translate and process these into the Thought Map.
Global People Project intends to create installation works in public spaces that can offer people access to the artwork in three dimensions and allow for them, if they wish, to become included in the Thought Map themselves.
There’s a growing community that stays connected to Global People Project as more people, places, visualised connections and other developments go live. To keep in touch with this evolving picture of world thought, please join the newsletter with your e-mail.
